Jernyn Street Leather is owned and run by Sarah Jermyn. Sarah holds a degree in Leathergoods Manufacture from Cordwainers College, London, and operates her business from her workshops in Oxfordshire, in the heart of England.
Made entirely by hand from start to finish, all Jermyn Street Leather pen cases are made from Lyveden shoulder leather, which is tanned using vegetable tans (as opposed to the cheaper, inferior and more widespread method of chrome tanning, which is known to react with the metals on a pen). Each pen case is saddle stitched by hand, to give maximum strength and minimum movement, whilst adding to the overall beauty of the case.
The leather is treated with waxes and oils to produce a “pull-up” distressed effect that lightens in colour when folded, turned or stretched, whilst leaving the natural grain intact to show the unique character of each case and to give a distinctive antique look and mellow feel to the touch.
