M3 (or Macro Molecular Metal) composite is an amazing material that combines real metals in a urethane based resin binder, to produce amazingly beautiful pen blanks that are easy to turn and polish.
The process by which the metals are treated prior to casting means that they don't tarnish, oxidise or corrode, and the blanks can be turned with standard turning tools. It's true to say that you will spend less time at the turning station with tungsten carbide tools than you will with HSS tools, but the blunting effect on tools is no greater than with, say, ebonite for instance.
M3 Composite pen blanks are especially good at holding fine detail and are therefore ideal for threading. Finishing is no different to your normal method for acrylic or ebonite pen blanks, and an incredible gem-quality shine can easily be achieved, whilst any lapping of threads that is necessary can be can be done with a fine metal polish.
Available as 19mm x 19mm (3/4 inch square) in either 150mm or 235mm lengths, M3 Composite pen blanks are strong, dense and stable. They can be cut, drilled, turned, threaded, sanded, engraved, polished, patinated, or brushed, and they make a fantastic looking pen.
